The Management Development Council invited individuals and businesses to submit their views and suggestions on how small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) can be better supported in developing their management capability.
The Council sought to draw up a comprehensive profile of management development providers and the services on offer to enterprises. The Council invited individuals and organisations involved in management development provision to complete a short questionnaire regarding their activities.
The Council considers management development to be any form of training, both formal and informal, accredited or non-accredited, which enhances the management capability of an SME manager. This included group formal taught courses, as well as informal 'on-the-job learning’, coaching, networking and one to one consultancy.
The Management Development Council was established by the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Mr. Micheál Martin T.D., to advise the Government on actions to support SMEs in developing and enhancing their management abilities.
